Just one big ad for EcoBoost. They bring it back for its 50th anniversary to take it racing at Le Mans. They want a 1-2-3 finish so bad they sandbagged it at Daytona so it could outperform the field at Le Mans. When they didn’t get the coveted 1-2-3 finish, they whined like little babies and unveiled their “heritage edition” anyway, commemorating their supposed 1-2-3 finish.
This was all planned.
They’re trying to sell more turbocharged-engines-with-a-cool-name, and they’re using the GT to do that.
They don’t care about heritage.
They want money.

I love it, I think it works, and if every manufacturer had an amazing supercar like this to show what they can do, the world would be a better place.

I’m not done.
I wish EVERY engine had an advertisement like this. I wish the 3 cylinder engine in the Mirage had a $100,000 triple-charged counterpart with 600hp.
I wish there were no real car ads anymore, just supercars. TV ads became artsy videos of the supercars. Billboards and magazines could just be photos of supercars as well. No more bullshit about leasing a Focus and unlimited mile warranties, just beauty shots of impossibly cool halo cars.
I wish there was a halo for every model. As well as a GT at the top of the range, a compromised, yet sleek and powerful version of the Mondeo, the Fusion, the Focus, the Fiesta, all of it!
Anything that involves building extravagant supercars is made better by doing more of it.

It’s no part 1 though. Maybe it’s skewed because we like the fact that Doc found a wife and started a family. Maybe I should have used a different trilogy for this analogy, because I think part 3 might have been better than part 2.

Same thing. The NSX shouldn’t have been revived. Honda is just capitalizing on heritage and risking ruining an iconic nameplate. They should have never cancelled the HSV-010 project.

Yup. A lot of automaker decisions become easier to understand when you recognize that they are for-profit businesses and making money is their number one goal.
I’m starting to think that even concept cars are not so much for gauging customer interest, so much as they are trying to woo investors.
And of course there’s Edward Norton’s character’s speech in Fight Club regarding manufacturers and recalls. It’s an entertaining theory, but I don’t think it’s very far from the truth.
